Version Mary 2
I just noticed that I haven’t posted anything since January, and I don’t want you guys to think I’m getting lazy. Busy? Yes. But still artin’ as often as I can.
I’m actually working on a new series that I’m pretty excited about! If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen some sneak peaks. If you don’t follow me on Facebook, go follow me on Facebook! I will post about the new series later, but for now suffice it to say that I’m enjoying a lot of experimentation with mixed media. Oh, I’m still in love with my Precious (alcohol inks), but I’m also really digging my new Inktense colored pencils and am dabbling with some other things, like watercolors, monoprints and a Gelli plate.
A while back, a friend linked to Omni Art House, which is a cool concept – an online gallery that seeks to “make art more affordable, accessible, and fun” and offers small works for sale, many of which are part of themed online exhibits. One of the exhibits that caught my attention is the “Version Mary“, where artists were given blocks printed with the same virgin Mary, and each artist created their own piece with the block to “mold her into something new”.
I decided to participate, as there was an open call for the 2014 Version Mary (2), and ordered a block, but I got so busy with work and kids and such that I almost forgot about the deadline. Luckily, I remembered the night before and managed to create something I was happy with. You can see my work-in-progress craziness (almost complete, actually) in the photo below – or click the thumbnail to the left to see the final.
I had fun with the concept which ultimately became a mix of recent works. 😉 The finished piece will be available for $40, and I’ll link to the appropriate page when Omni Art House publishes all of the entries.
Update: this piece is now available for sale. Follow this link for details.
