A League of Our Own

Yesterday, I noticed a link in my Facebook news feed, followed it, and was delighted to find a group of alcohol ink artists.  Despite the fact that alcohol inks are relatively new and mostly used for “crafting”, I knew other alcohol ink painters existed, as I have been researching and following several artists online for the past year…but I was surprised and thrilled to find so many of them together in one place!

I joined the group and am honored to be in the company of such talented artists.  Everyone is willing to share and learn from each other, and there is a wonderful sense of community.  It reminds me a bit of when I was in college (way back when) and the use of Macintosh computers in graphic design was just emerging.  In my Design Communications I & II classes, the instructors were really no more familiar with Macs or the design software than any of us students were, so we all tackled it and learned together.  I’m talking Photoshop 1.0, people.

Ironically, I’ve been working on the “recommended resources & inspiration” section of my Alcohol Inks page, and several of the artists who are in this group were already “on my list” to rave about!  To say that I am excited to be able to communicate with them on a daily basis is an understatement.  There is also some amazing new talent in the group.

I am pretty stoked about it, if you can’t tell.

  1. Hi Monica,
I have just looked on your blog , very nice and something totally different .
I discovered inks the end of last year and I was totally stunned how beautiful it is, its addicting ,but were I live its always a battle the inks took a long time before eventually I got them, they are practically unknown here when say you paint with them , people look at you like you are from mars Yupo paper is not available here so at some stage I have to try and get them from the states, sofar I have only painted on ceramic tiles not a 100% succesful . thank you for your info about all kinds of different gadjets to use I have also experimented with all kinds of things I paint in oils normally ,although I am not a true artist ,in the sense I need guidance a lot of the times ,but with inks it seems to be a lot easier ,you get all these happy accidents .
I am very pleased with this group so at least I can ask some questions as in South aAfrica Capetown to be excact, I have not come across anybody that uses inks jet .
I will follow your website I think it looks awsome .
    regards Betsy thomson
